I’m having a love affair with a country. Scandalous. That’s right, Italy has stolen my heart and has no intention of returning it. That’s okay. I’m just as besotted.
Let me tell you a little more about this torrid affair. I’m staying in a leetle town called Acqui Terme, a little bit outside of Alessandria between Torino and Milan. It takes about ten minutes to drive through and about ten milliseconds to decide you’re going to stay forever. I’m staying with an Italian host family, a mahma and two teenagers, who are all so nice and welcoming and CUTE ohmygosh. Not to mention, my host mahma is an amazing cook and I’m eating home cooked Italian meals every day. Liiiiiike (don’t drool on your computer): homemade pasta carbonara, gnocchi with pesto, chicken with lemon sauce, duck with orange sauce, fresh espresso and fresh-squeezed orange juice every morning…and miraculously, my pants still fit. I’m surprised too. #thirdsanyone I’m learning Italian quite rapidly as there’s a bit of a language barrier–as in, I speak a leeeetle italiano and the host fam speaks a leeeeetle English–but with hand gestures, circumlocution and a lot of google translate on cell phones, we make it work. I think my vocabulary has tripled since I’ve been here and I can almost almost understand
